Welcome to the Dumfries and Galloway Area Tourist Information

This area is a softer version of the Highlands, with quaint towns and villages interspersed amongst rolling hills, forest trails, nature reserves and agricultural land, and famous for the "Belted Galloway" cattle. It is a bird watcher's paradise, and migrating species can be found at the wildfowl refuge of Caerlaverock, whilst along the marshes of the Solway Firth Wigtown Bay is a major haunt of the Greylag geese. North of Newton Stewart golden eagles may be spotted soaring high above Merrick, whilst red deer graze on its slopes
