The quayside of Dundee is the home
of RRS Discovery. Step aboard and follow in Captain Scott's footsteps
on his epic voyage to Antarctica; see how Discovery was built,
explore this famous ship and learn what it was like for the crew
who survived two winters locked in the ice. Across the town is
Verdant Works, and excellent and informative heritage centre which
brings to life the Dundee of over 100 years ago.
JM Barrie, creator of Peter Pan, was born
at Kirriemuir, Angus, in 1860, and his birthplace exhibits life size figures,
theatre posters, stage costumes and miniature stage sets. For peace and
tranquility, proceed from Kirriemuir, "Gateway to the Glens",
and explore the beautiful Braes of Angus, perhaps catching a glimpse of
ospreys at their summer abode on Loch of Lintrathen.
Glamis castle, childhood home of the Queen
Mother, stands in impressive 18th century parkland, including an Italian
garden. This plus the fascinating Angus folk museum in Glamis, is open
to the public from Easter to October and is well worth a visit.
